Ask the Disney Moms – Best Star Wars Experiences in Disney

Our reader Amanda asked the following question:

We are planning on hitting WDW in June of 2013.  We are a big group of 12 with 7 kids and lots of different interests. I have the princess thing down from past trips but need advice on how to get the best Star Wars experience for my 8-year-old daughter and my two nephews ages 7 and 10.  Any suggestions of getting the best Star Wars experience?

Star Wars Weekends:

If you are a Star Wars fan, your best bet is to visit during the Star Wars weekends.  This year’s weekends fall on May 17 – June 9, 2013.  So, depending on when you plan your vacation, you could be there to experience this!  Admission to the Star Wars weekends is free and is held at the Hollywood Studios theme park from Friday through Sunday.  The weekend includes meet and greets and signings with celebrities of Star Wars.  If you plan on getting one of these signatures, please be sure to use your Fastpass for your best shot at getting a place in line.  There is no mistaking, the signatures are a HOT and only available to a limited number of guests per day.  Be sure to check here for the schedule of celebrities expected to be found at the park each weekend.

Be sure to wear any Star Wars costumes you have!  Many a guest will be dressed up, no matter the age! If you need a costume, be sure to check out Disney’s website here for all sorts of Star Wars costumes for fans of any age.

Also, at the end of the day, Hollywood Studios will have music, dancing and comedy in the Hyperspace Hoopla.  There you can hang out with Ewoks, Wookiees, Stormtroopers, Jawas and other creatures.

Non-Star Wars Weekends

If you do not plan on being in the area during Star Wars Weekends, you definitely should visit Star Tours in Hollywood Studios which has recently been updated for better graphics to include digital 3D! Following the attraction, your child will love checking out all of the Star Wars merchandise available!

If your child is willing to show off their Jedi skills in the stage show Jedi Training Academy also located in Hollywood Studios.   To get included in the show, your child must be between the ages of 4 and 12.  As soon as you arrive in the park, head directly to the ABC Sound Studio.  The Jedis-to-be will be asked to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their show.  Additional instructions will be given upon arrival.  Remember, the assignment to a show is first come, first serve.  The earlier you arrive, the better!
