Ask The Disney Mom’s – Reader Question regarding Signature Dining in Disney

Ask the Disney MomsReader question – Vikki from Cheshire in the United Kingdom

We are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) with free Disney Dining Plan in September.  Myself and my husband and children are doing Cinderella’s Royal Table and we’d like to treat the in-laws to something really nice too.  California Grill (CG) is closed whilst we are there, where else would you recommend?

There are many great choices of Signature dining at Walt Disney World.  The CG is indeed closed for a major refurburbishment until late summer 2013 but there are many other choices.  I will inform you of some of my favourites.

Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge is a  rustic yet elegant restaurant which has the feel of a National Park lodge to it.  It has a warm and relaxing atmosphere and has glorious views of  Bay Lake.  The menu reflects the Pacific Northwest’s cuisine: seafood, sirloin and game.

The Grand Floridian holds 3 choices – Victoria and Albert, Narcoossee’s and Citrico’s.  V and A is possibly the most luxurious and upscale eatery at Disney World.  You enjoy maid and butler “team service” during a 6-course meal of modern American cuisine with classical influences.  But expect to pay big bucks for the privilege!  The Menu Prix Fixe $135.00 and wine Pairings $65.00 per guest.  Narcoossee’s is a seafood specialist eatery with a coastal theme and being placed next to the Seven Seas lagoon, affords guests the extra special feature of being able to watch the Electrical Water Pageant and of course, Wishes from the MK.  Citrico’s brings the cuisine of Europe to the US and has a wonderful Mediterranean décor.

Finally, it was be remiss not to mention Jiko – The Cooking Place at ALK since you are staying there.  This restaurant fuses the bold flavors of traditional African, Indian and Mediterranean cuisine.  Be prepared to chose from  tantalizing appetizers such as grilled wild boar tenderloin, crispy beef bobotie roll and brick oven-fired flatbreads.  Watch the chefs prepare each meal in The Cooking Place, a show kitchen with a rich atmosphere befitting the beauty of this unique restaurant.

You can check the official Disney website to see sample menus of all of these restaurants.

There are of course many more excellent dining experiences, and indeed many fabulous Table Service eateries too.  It doesn’t have to be Signature dining to be fantastic.  Be sure to stop by and let us know which you chose (don’t forget to make your Advanced Dining Reservation as soon as possible) and what the verdict was after your vacation.
