Ask the Disney Moms – Rides to Avoid if Pregnant

Reader Maira wrote to ask:

We will be going to three of the parks (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios). I will be 19 wks pregnant when we visit.  Our children are 4 and 6. We dont plan on getting on any of the more thriller, high impact rides.  However,  I’m wondering if there are any restrictions for me getting on any of the more age appropriate, low impact rides.  I just want to know what rides, if any, I will not be allowed to get on since I noticed most of the rides are 2 seaters and my husband and i plan on pairing up with our boys.

What a great question for all of the pregnant planners out there!  Nothing is worse than getting in a line, the realizing that you should not ride the attraction.  I can just see your children become disappointed that you could not ride once they have already gotten in line.

So, to help you along, here is a list of the attraction you should consider avoiding per park:

Magic Kingdom:

  • Splash Mountain
  • Tomorrowland Speedway
  • Space Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  • The Sum of all Thrills

Hollywood Studios:

  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Animal Kingdom:

  • Kilamanjaro Safaris
  • Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain
  • Primeval Whirl

You can also find these listed as “Physical Considerations” on each of the Disney theme park maps with the notation of a red triangle.

Overall, most of the attractions are safe for those who are pregnant!

I was at Disney when 25 weeks pregnant. I skipped all the rides you have listed- would have skipped them anyway as hubby and I are not thrill ride seekers and our son was 4 and not tall enough for most of them anyway. I DID however go on the Kilimanjaro safari ride- I’d read mixed reviews about whether it was safe or not and decided to go for it. It was bumpy but honestly no bumpier than driving my car on some of the back roads around our house. Am very glad I didn’t skip it!
