Driving to Walt Disney World With Kids

Do you drive to Walt Disney World with your family?  We typically do.  It’s about a 10 hour drive from our front door to WDW.  We try to drive interstates the whole way and we try to make as few stops as possible!  The faster we get there, the faster we begin playing in our happy place.  The only downside is we are all in the car together for 10 hours!

So, how do we “keep the peace” while we are traveling?  I’ll share some of the distractions we use for the boys during our travels.  Some of these can also be used on a plane trip! Continue reading →

Question: Where to find cheese blintzes at WDW?

The Disney Moms reader, Theresa, asks, “Is there anywhere else on WDW that bintzes are offered for breakfast besides the Contemporary”

This question actually stumped quite a few of “The Disney Moms!”  None of us had even heard of bintzes.  Since none of us had actually eaten the blintzes, we had to turn to the internet to find the answer and this is what we were able to find.  After a bit of research we found that a cheese blintz is a “filled, egg-based pancake, originating with the Russian blin. The pancake for blintzes is similar in texture and flavor to French crepes or Russian blini. In the Ashkenazi Jewish tradition, blintzes can be either sweet (filled with cheese or fruit) or savory (filled with meat, potatoes, or salty cheese).”  We also found that cheese blintzes are served at several places on Walt Disney World property.

According to several Disney blogs and discussion boards, we found that in addition to Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort, they can be found at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom, Cape May at the Beach Club Resort and 1900 Park Fare at The Grand Floridian Resort. Continue reading →

Planning for Souvenirs

Most families spend a lot of time planning for their trip to Walt Disney World.  They work with the Disney web site or a travel agent to plan the perfect vacation.  They look at ticket options, room rates, and dining plans/options.  One thing many families over look is souvenirs.  First time visitors may not realize how easy it is to get “sucked into” the souvenirs at WDW- adults and children alike!

Back to School with Disney

Many school systems across the country are gearing up for a new school year.  For many families, this means waiting 8 months or more until they can visit Walt Disney World again when school is not in session.  While some families do visit during a long weekend, holiday break or spring break, many don’t try to visit this magical spot for fear of missing too much school.

Favorite Snacks and Treats

While our family goes to Walt Disney World for the rides, attractions and shows, we also LOVE all the food options the parks have to offer.  We do love the restaurants on property, but I think our family could literally live on all the snacks, treats and desserts alone!

In planning your family’s vacation to Walt Disney World, you always need to plan for meals, especially if you want reservations at a Table Service Restaurant.  (Remember you can make these reservations 180 days prior to your vacation.)  You can read tour books, blogs and search Disney’s web site for counter service suggestions, which don’t require reservations.  But, you also need to plan for snacks and treats while on your trip!!  If you are participating in the Disney Dining Plan, you will get one snack a day and you don’t want to waste these precious credits!

Here are our families top 10 (in no particular order) Snacks at Walt Disney World:

Planning for Autographs at Walt Disney World

One thing our kids (and I) love to do at Walt Disney World is collect character’s autographs.  Most families travel to WDW with the thought of “getting autographs” but that’s as far as it goes.  Some families will buy or make autograph books prior to their vacation and others will buy the “official” autograph books once they arrive.  But, I want to give you a few other options for collecting character autographs at Walt Disney World.

What To Pack For Walt Disney World

After almost 20 vacations to Walt Disney World I still refer to my packing list as I prepare for a trip.  This is an extensive list, but it helps me as I plan.  We have traveled to WDW as 2 adults with no kids, 2 adults with 1 child, 2 adults with 1 toddler, and 2 adults with 1 child and 1 toddler.  We’ve traveled by plane and in our own car.  We’ve been in summer, fall, winter and spring.  We’ve traveled with free dining and we’ve brought our own food and snacks.  One thing that has stayed consistent is the fact that we always stay on Disney property!  Depending on the circumstances of your trip, you can customize this list to fit your needs.  Happy planning! DisneyQuest at Walt Disney World

One thing that our family is looking forward to experiencing on our next trip to Walt Disney World is DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney’s West Side.  When our oldest son went to Walt Disney World the first time, he was 5.  On the second trip he was 7 and the last trip he was 10.  While this past trip would have been the best time for him to experience DisneyQuest, it was not practical for his 2 year old brother, so we did not visit. Yo Ho, Yo Ho! The Pirates League for Me!

If you are a mom of boys, like I am, you are probably not very interested in visiting the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Walt Disney World.  But did you know you had another option?  You can take your entire family (if they are over the age of 3) to The Pirates League at the Magic Kingdom inside the gift shop at the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction.

Atlanta Braves at Walt Disney World

One thing that is on our families Disney Bucket List is to attend an Atlanta Braves Spring Training baseball game at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.   We love Disney and we love baseball.  This would be my 11 year old son’s favorite thing to do!  The only thing that would make it better would be for the Red Sox to train at Walt Disney World!

Spring Training starts in just a few short weeks.  The Braves will kick off their 15th season of training at WDW on March 3.   If your family is planning a trip to Walt Disney World in March, and you love baseball, I would suggest planning an afternoon (or occasional evening) to catch a baseball game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.   Below, you will find the details about the games and the venue from the ESPN WWoS web site.
