Disney Park and Resort maps are an integral part of planning your day at Disney. But did you know they make great keepsakes from your time in the parks? For less than $15, you can turn your extra maps into souvenirs or gifts. Here are some of my favorite ideas!
My scrapbook pages always include some of the park and resort maps from each trip. By marking all the attractions you visited on the map, you will have a permanent record of all that you did that day! Don’t scrapbook? Mark the map anyway and tuck it away for planning your next trip!
Make a Shadow Box Bank
Select a portion of the map, glue it into a shadow box, and start saving for your next trip! For instructions visit http://momsofalltrades.blogspot.com/2011/02/shadow-boxes.html
Make a Clock
What a great way to sneak a piece of Disney into any room or office! Check here for simple instructions. http://modpodgerocksblog.com/2013/07/map-craft-how-to-make-a-clock.html
You can use any frame or canvas to turn your park maps into a beautiful wall hanging. Another option is to cover a frame with the map, then add your favorite vacation picture!
Cover a Piece of Furniture
One way that I save for Disney vacations is to repurpose items purchased at yard sales and thrift shops. Consider applying a map from your favorite park to dresser drawers, the top of a coffee table or stand, or onto a chair using a decoupage medium . The result will be a one of a kind piece of furniture that is certain to inspire the magic of Disney!
Take that map from drab to fab! Use pieces of your park maps to wrap wooden or plastic bangles. For instructions visit http://mousetalestravel.com/2012/04/diy-map-souvenir-bracelet/)
Head over to your local craft store and look for inexpensive items to make pendants or earrings! I found these already made at Etsy.com. To purchase these and other Disney map jewelry, head over to Etsy.com and search for the MCDesign shop.
To capture more of the details of the maps, try making pins!
For this project, use any coasters that you already have at home or purchase some at a big box store or thrift store. Decoupage pieces of the map onto your coaster and let dry. Another option would be to buy coasters that hold photos and insert the map section that represents your favorite attraction.
DIY Travel mug
Most craft stores sell DIY travel and coffee mugs that include pictures for kids to color. Use the coloring sheet as a template, cut your map down to size, and insert into the mug!
You’ve done this with fall leaves, so why not Disney maps? Have your maps laminated or sandwich them between pieces of clear contact paper. You and the kids will have fun sharing memories of your Disney vacations while at the diner table. Get the kids involved in planning your next Disney vacation by using a dry erase marker to mark must see attractions on the placemats. If you need a reminder how to do this, visit http://www.momendeavors.com/2013/05/diy-disney-craft-disney-map-placemats.html
Pen and Pencil Holders
Remember making these as a kid in school? Find an empty can or plastic jar, cut the map to size, and glue in place!
Switch Plate Covers
Decoupage, a switch plate cover, and a map is all it takes to bring a bit of Disney into any room!
Who knew you could turn those maps into a one of a kind pair of shoes or sandles! For instructions visit http://www.disneyweddinginspiration.com/2012/09/diy-disney-park-map-shoes.html
Paper flowers, autograph books, countdown calendars, and cards are just a handle of the many more ideas that abound to turn your park map into a cherished keepsake from your magical vacation. We would love to hear your ideas!
