A New Way to Pay at Disney Resorts

As many of us have heard, there’s a new way to pay coming soon to a phone and a watch near you. With many credit card companies (including Visa, Master Card, and American Express) already to be supported, this is going to be big, folks. Big! As with many new technologies, Disney has already said they will support this new way to pay. Think about it like having a MagicBand with you everywhere you go!

Apple Watch displays a face of the user’s choosing. Mickey Mouse would be my choice.

This will increase security of your payments as well. Some guests of the Disney resorts may take issue with having a credit card on their MagicBand. While Disney has assured guests that MagicBands have extensive measures to protect your information, Apple responds to the concern more specifically. Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services says, “When you’re using Apple Pay in a store, restaurant or other merchant, cashiers will no longer see your name, credit card number or security code, helping to reduce the potential for fraud.” Apple Pay doesn’t store actual card numbers on the device or on Apple’s servers. A unique Device Account Number is assigned and encrypted.

Since guests at Disney theme parks who are not staying at a Disney Resort hotel would have to otherwise purchase a MagicBand in order to have FastPass+ privileges, this may offer another alternative for those guests. While nothing has yet been said about whether or not you would be able to use the technology on your wrist or in your iPhone to use FastPass+, connect to a Disney PhotoPass account, or to enter the parks, the ability for that is an option with iPhone 6 and Apple Watch. As excited as our family is to get to use the MagicBands on our next trip, some people are less excited about having something big and plastic on their wrist in the Florida heat, having the technology on your iPhone could provide an answer to that concern.

Having a credit card on file for charging on our room key has been something we’ve found very handy in the past. Having the ability to have all of this on our wrists where we don’t risk losing our room key with a credit card attached has been a very exciting prospect, and having all of this all of the time, whether at the theme park or at our local grocery store, is very exciting.
