Our family recently went on our second Disney Cruise. This one was longer than our first and even more magical. The second time around I remembered a few things that I forgot the first time and wanted to share them with you. These are not necessary of course, but it may help make your cruise a little more Magical.
1. A Watch
A lot of people these days rely on their cellphone as their watch, but many people don’t take their phones with them on a cruise (see the thing to forget!). You will not find many if any clocks on the Disney Cruise ships, not even in your stateroom next to the bed! This is of course by design as the point of a cruise vacation is to relax. However, the Daily Navigator is packed full of things for everyone in your family to do and all have a time on them. I had taken a watch, but my Mother in law had not and spent her whole cruise asking me and other people what time it was so she could get to her next event.
2. Water Bottles or WDW Cups
There is a 24 hour drink station located on all ships that serves soft drinks, coffee, hot tea, etc. There are cups provided at the station, but the cups are on the small side. On this trip we took our cups from our last WDW trip and filled them up. It was nice to have the lid and the handle to carry them around. I saw several people who had also brought large water bottles or Tervis cups from home as well. You are also saving the environment by making this choice!
3. A highlighter
As mentioned the daily Navigator is packed full of things for all members of your group. Then entire day’s schedule is printed on a letter size paper one-sided. It is easy to forget things or lose track of what you want to do. I took a highlighter this time and simply highlighted things that someone wanted to do. It kept us organized and we didn’t forget where we were supposed to be.
4. Pirate Attire
One night of your cruise will be Pirates IN the Caribbean Night. On this night, Grandmas all the way down to babies dress up in Pirate Attire. The meal is pirate themed and there is a Pirate Party and fireworks on the top deck. Some cruises even do a late night chocolate buffet after the Pirate Party. Disney Cruise Line gives you a super cute Pirate bandana in your state-room that night, but many people also dress up. You can do something as simple as a white shirt, cut up and black Capri pants (tons of ideas if you do a search) or you can buy Halloween costumes. We did the second option this time because this Disney Mom is not all that crafty. On our next cruise, my husband I are going to get in the fun too, but this time the kids just dressed up.
And the one thing to forget…
I realize this may cause some people to panic. After all, most of us are attached to our phones and use them all the time. However, the point of a Disney Cruise for our family is to relax and forget about all the things waiting for us at home, like work. Having our phones with us, does not allow this to happen. Plus since you will be out of the USA many mobile phone companies charge outrageous charges. We have chosen both times to leave our phones back at the port and have some tech free time in our lives. For us it makes our vacation that much more relaxing. Disney Cruise Line does have a wonderful app that you can use on board that has the daily Navigator as well as a countdown. If you absolutely must have your phone for pictures or to stay connected, may I then recommend blocking out some tech free time to stare at the lovely ocean or have a massage!
