I’m cheating on Disney? No, Never! I recently discovered meetup.com (I know, I must have been living under a rock), and I found an amazing group of folks I can’t wait to meet. Next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, June 15th and 16th, is Car Masters Weekend.
Of course, Sunday is Father’s Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a Cars-themed visit to Downtown Disney? With Disney fans, “the more, the merrier” is more than just a saying, so our family is meeting some new friends: everyone is gathering, thirty people or so, around World of Disney to celebrate those friendly familiar faces like Lightning McQueen, Mater, and Finn McMissile. Photo ops, a chance to sit in the cars, giveaways, etc. are all around for the day, and for a family on a budget, we can add more precious Disney memories without spending too much money.
Is Dad an auto enthusiast as well as a Disney fan? This event is perfect, with over 150 classic and exotic cars competing for awards in the Downtown Disney Car Show. Chip Foose, a legend in the world of automotive design (as well as a contributor to the characters of the Cars films) will be on hand, for meet-and-greets and merchandise signing, including some exclusive items for sale. Joining Foose on the Car Masters Stage will be Jay Ward, one of the artistic wizards behind Disney-Pixar’s Cars.
In the spirit of the classic car show, Downtown Disney’s luxury bowling emporium Splitsville will be hosting a sock hop from 6-9 pm, with a soundtrack of groovy 50’s and 60’s rock ‘n roll hits, live entertainment, bowling competitions, special appearances by Foose and Ward, and even more fun!
This is just one example of why Downtown Disney is awesome. They are accommodating to the thousands of tourists a week they see, who may or may not be a park guests, but are still meaningful to the Mouse. If you’re lucky to be a local Floridian like myself I highly suggest always checking out what Downtown Disney has to offer. And I encourage you to reach out and find other Disney fans, some even have power walking at the park for fitness, and how fun does that sound? Dole whips and cardio—yes, thank you!
I hope you always enjoy your holidays with Disney; to me it is perfection, so take advantage of quality family time, at little to no cost to enjoy a little bit of it the Magic on your own time, and at little to nothing but a little research, keeping up with the newsfeeds, and filling up the tank.
