Magically Sweet Treats for a Chilly Day at the Magic Kingdom

storybook circusTucked away in back of Disney’s New Fantasyland, along the side of Ariel’s Grotto, you’ll find the most adorable Circus in  the “World”, Storybook Circus.

In Storybook Circus, Dumbo the elephant soars.  The Great Goofini challenges young dare devils to ride his crazy plane.  In Pete’s Silly Side Show guests can meet Minnie, Daisy, Goofy and Donald dressed in their best circus attire.  And Casey Jr., carrying Dumbo’s mom and friends, provides little ones an excellent way to blow off steam and cool down on a warm day.  However, some days at the Magic Kingdom, a cool down isn’t needed.  Last week at The Magic Kingdom temperatures dropped into the thirties.  Although, this isn’t a typical day at the park, there are times that it does happen and you’ll need a winter coat while exploring during the winter months.  During one such day, while my two-year-old daughter napped in her stroller, I looked for a warm spot to visit in the circus themed area of Fantasyland.  In doing so, I stumbled across the sweetest little gem hidden within Big Top Souvenirs.

Big Top Souvenirs

Big Top Souvenirs is a huge circus tent that is located across from the Dumbo attraction.

On previous vacations I’ve quickly browsed in this oversized gift shop and was thrilled to find that it offers a large variety of merchandise and embroidery personalizing service.  However since the classic Mickey Mouse Premium Ice Cream Bar has always been my family’s special snack of choice, in past trips I didn’t pay much attention to the treat station located in the center of the Big Top Souvenir store.  During this particular super cold day, ice cream wasn’t something we planned to eat, so I ventured over to the treat station. To my surprise, I found Disney magic happening before my eyes!

Treat Station in Storybook CircusCast Members, although busy at work, were more than happy to talk with me about their creations.  Telling me that they make all the treats that are sold at that location.  At that moment, they were creating their famous Mickey Mouse chocolate covered apples- Yum!  As you can see, the cast members start with a Granny Smith apple and use marshmallows for Mickey’s ears. Various other small candies and nuts are used to perfect each character apple’s look.  Here are some photos of the apples being made.

There were various other fun Disney character inspired treats, from Mickey brownies, to cake pops, to fun Mickey Mouse gingerbread style cookies.  Up to that point, I had never seen a Mickey Mouse French Macaroon, so I had to try one!  Delicious!
