A few years ago I was reading a blog about Disney and they mentioned that there were pressed penny machines at Disney World. I thought to myself, I haven’t noticed them before. But an ah-hah moment occurred just then. Collecting pressed pennies would be something fun and different for our family to do. So on our last trip I was armed with quarters and pennies for the penny pressing machines.
Some of you might be asking by now, what is a penny pressing machine? Well it is basically a machine you put 2 quarters and a penny into and then you have a choice of 3-4 designs that will be pressed onto the top of the penny. You get to choose what design you want and then you crank the machine and your penny will come out smashed and a design will be on it.
We found out that these machines were all over the parks and resorts. We were surprised at where some of them were at. You can go here to see where they are located and what the pennies look like.
We let our kids decide where they wanted to get pressed pennies at, but for the most part we got them from their favorite rides or their favorite characters.
To make life easier we put our pennies and quarters in a used mini M&M container. This way all the coins were in one place and we had somewhere to put our pressed coin when we were finished.
We had a great time pressing pennies on our recent trip. This is something we will do again. Have you ever collected pressed pennies on your trip?
