Reader Question – Haunted Carriage Rides

“We go each year to Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. I would love to get some information on the Haunted Carriage Rides”. Posted by Debra.

Well Debra, as you may know the Haunted Halloween Carriage Rides have been historically based at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

They were a 25-minute narrated carriage ride through the dark woods of Fort Wilderness and along the shore of Bay Lake. As you rode in the carriage you heard the sights and sounds of the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” All rides departed from the Blacksmith’s Shop at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Although there are many different wagon rides, this particular one generally ran from September 30 through October 31, on the half hour from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. (Last ride at 10:30.)

The carriage held up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children. Cost was $60 and you would need to call 407-WDW-PLAY (939-7529) to book as they were very popular.

You may have noticed the use of past tense in my answer. That is because there are no Haunted Carriage rides for 2012 (by steve). There is no official Disney explanation for this but it has been speculated that they are either being updated or moved to another location.

I’m sorry you won’t get to do this fun extra this year but hope the information has been helpful regardless. Have a great trip!

While the idea of a haunted carriage ride seems grand, it’s just ok IMO. Perhaps that’s because we did the haunted hay ride a few years before and LOVED it. The carriage ride takes you around the “Fort” and into the woods, all the while a taped story of Sleepy Hollow plays. For us, the hayride was so much more fun and much scarier! The driver of the hayride provided the entertainment and really made the ride a fun adventure. We won’t do the carriage ride again, we’ll wait to see if the hayride comes back and do that.
