The American Idol Experience

How many times have you walked by this in Hollywood Studios and thought nothing of going inside?

The American Idol Experience in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Based off the actual television show, Disney’s American Idol Experience is a 25-minute show set in a spectacular theatre complete with lights, cameras, and the chance for the audience to vote for their favorite singer!  The theater is large, cool and comfortable….perfect spot for a quick nap for the young and old at heart while the rest of the family watches the show!

The waiting area outside the theatre is near a rest room, is under cover out of the sun or rain, and is contained enough to let small kids out of strollers to stretch their legs.  Watch for the show’s crew!  They often come out and film the guests cheering for a contestant. If they film you, you could be on the show!

Contestants in each show are selected from park guests who audition in front of a Disney Cast Member.  The audition process begins with a private a capella performance. For the second audition, contestants choose from a list of pop favorites, classics and Disney tunes for a backstage, “karaoke”-style performance. Three park guests are chosen to compete in each of the five daily shows.  The winner of each show then competes for the Dream Ticket in the finale at the end of the day.  This ticket allows the winner to schedule a front-of-the-line audition at an actual regional audition for the American Idol TV show!

The Performances are broadcast live on the screen outside of the theatre.  Consider an early dinner reservation then watch the 7 pm finale outside.  The crowds are pretty minimal, allowing the perfect opportunity for the kids to burn off energy (if there is any left!) while you watch/listen to the show.
