Visiting Walt’s Trains

If you or someone in your family is a train enthusiast, you will find there are many ways to enjoy Walt’s trains while on your Walt Disney World vacation.

First, I recommend you arrive in time for the Opening Ceremony at the Magic Kingdom one morning.  Mickey and friends chug in on the steam locomotive and open the park with the family* of the day!

Then peruse the memorabilia in the Train Station on your way into the Magic Kingdom park. Enjoy the photos of Walt and several of his collections which are on display.

And of course take a train ride around the park, with stops in Frontierland and New Fantasyland, you may hop on and hop off as you make your way around the park. Or stay on board for the 20+ minute ride around the whole theme park.

All Aboard!
Embark on a relaxing 20-minute, 1.5-mile scenic tour onboard an authentic steam-powered train. Listen to the clamor of the engine, the chug of the wheels and the call of the whistle as you travel aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad. Offering convenient stops at Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland and Fantasyland, it’s the perfect way to preview the magic at Magic Kingdom park and take in the picturesque scenery. The Walt Disney World Railroad is also a handy way to get around quickly and easily. And because the trains are scheduled to arrive at each station every 4 to 10 minutes at most times throughout the day, you never have to worry about waiting a long time to ride one.

Walt’s Lifelong Passion
A noted train enthusiast, Walt Disney built his very first railroad in his backyard. The Carolwood Pacific Railroad, a 1/8-scale train, debuted in 1950 and featured a custom-built, steam powered locomotive that encircled his property. Delighted with his miniature backyard railroad, Walt decided to share his love of trains with the whole world. The result was the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad, a favorite of Guests since the park opened in 1955. Today, railroads exist at every Disney park around the globe. [courtesy Disney]

We believe everyday is a day to celebrate and if you visit our kitchen, you will find us putting sprinkles on everything from pancakes to ice cream! Between baseball games and scouting trips, we enjoy dreaming about our next Disney vacation.

*Note: Many people ask – “How are Families of the Day chosen?” Answer: The Cast Members are always on the look for families having a good time and enjoying their Disney vacation. They select the Family of the Day early, so your best chance is to arrive at the park gates at least 30-45 minutes before the ceremony.
